Stretching a Moment
textile and lighting art installation
Nika Batista and Marusa Kranjc
October 2024, Gallery Mitnica, Ljubljana, Slovenia

The authors of the installation are Nika Batista, an intermedia artist, and Maruša Kranjc, a designer. They carried out some of their joint projects within the pH15 group. The group was formed ten years ago as a social art collective focused on expressing their ideas through textiles and other media. To mark the 10th anniversary of the group, Nika and Maruša have created a textile and lighting art installation titled Stretching a Moment.
Stretching a Moment is a textile intervention on the existing ‘Mitnica’ exhibition space, i.e. an old toll house. Its concept relates to the very beginning of the pH15 group. It revives memories of many a conversation and discussion: What can the textile represent and how can it be manipulated? Who is the textile addressing and why? How can the textiles relate to social problems? What is its speech like and what is its language when used as the matter of creation?
The incorporated light bundle embraces all individual members of/creators in the pH15 group and the individual creative achievements of the group members in the past ten years. The installation represents all their ideas and thoughts; those that have been implemented, those that have been changing and evolving over time as well as those that have shaped them as creators and went out in the ether.
